A mid-October message on Airbnb raised the suspicions of Edith Stone Lentini, asking to rent her Nantucket home on Field Avenue for a one-night stay. The request was for a Halloween party, with the promise of “leaving the house spotless” and “nothing being ruined.” Lentini gave the request a second thought.
A Surprise Party
Fast-forward to November 1st, just before 10 pm, an officer from the Nantucket Police Department called Lentini, informing her that a house party was happening at her home. Lentini’s heart sank; she assumed the worst.
A Surprisingly Well-Manicured Mess
But when she arrived at her home on Sunday, she found a surprisingly well-manicured mess. The students had carefully moved furniture, rolled up her white carpet, and even put “do not enter” tape around the TV stand. The most damage was sticky floors from pre-party prep. They even left an Amazon monitor and a bottle of Tito’s vodka behind.
The Plan was to Party in Stages
The original request had been made by a 14- or 15-year-old girl, who had posted a video on Snapchat, decorating the house. It turned out that she had planned a party with staggered grades – 9th graders first, followed by 10th graders – and so on.
The Aftermath
Lentini spoke with the police, learning more about the break-in and the elaborate plan. While the Nantucket Police Department confirmed the incident, they declined to release the police report, citing the ages of the involved individuals. Officer Lt. Angus MacVicar mentioned that the department is conducting an extensive investigation, with no determination yet on whether charges will be filed.
