Colorado Airbnb host faces $16K in damages after suspected migrant gang members ‘destroy’ property

When Karen Martiz welcomed a group of guests to her Airbnb property in the Colorado mountains, she thought she was hosting a relaxing stay for a few individuals. Little did she know, she was in for the surprise of her life.

Photos obtained by Fox News show the aftermath of a chaotic weekend, with cigarette butts, gum, and trash littering the streets. It was a party, but not the kind Martiz had expected. In fact, it was a full-blown rager with up to 80 people involved, according to authorities.

The property, located in Evergreen, Colorado, was left in shambles, with gum stuck to walls and ceilings, carpets stained, and a “no-smoking” policy completely ignored.

“I was devastated when I walked into my house,” Martiz told Fox News. “I couldn’t believe it.”

But the damage didn’t stop there. Local authorities believe that members of the Venezuelan migrant gang Tren de Aragua were behind the destruction, and even worse, there were reports of gunshots fired during the party.

“It’s very real, and this group of people [Tren de Aragua] are doing it to people like me,” Martiz said, her voice shaking with emotion.

The estimated damage? A whopping $16,000, which Martiz is now struggling to pay off. She’s also had to replace the entire carpet, leaving her property out of commission for at least a month.

“It’s very difficult to see the state of my house and the state of my life right now,” she admitted. “I’m hoping to get reimbursed by Airbnb, but it’s a tough spot.”

As for Martiz, she’s not alone in her plight. Others have experienced similar problems with these gangs, leading some to question whether the narrative that “they’re just coming to work and won’t cause trouble” is indeed an exaggeration.

“They want to destroy our lives, our property, and our sense of security,” Martiz said. “We need to take action to stop this before it’s too late.”
