An Airbnb customer, @ktdigiacomo, has gone viral on TikTok after sharing her harrowing experience with a host who refused to refund her after she attempted to cancel part of her stay. The drama-filled saga has garnered over 389,600 views on the platform.

The content creator shared a six-minute video detailing her ordeal, which began when she and her family were forced to leave their home due to a hurricane. They found an Airbnb that agreed to accommodate them, but things quickly took a turn for the worse.

What Happened at the Airbnb?

@ktdigiacomo claimed she paid an “unreasonable amount of money” to stay at the Airbnb, which cost $4,500 per month. She had asked the host if they would be flexible with their move-out date, but the host agreed and she moved in on September 27.

However, a second storm rolled in, and @ktdigiacomo said she helped the host prepare the house, but things took a dark turn when the host started spying on the family through security cameras. The host accused them of leaving a porch light on and having too many people in the house, but since neighbors claimed they hadn’t spoken to the host, @ktdigiacomo figured the host was watching them.

Recurring Problems with Airbnb

@ktdigiacomo isn’t the only one to experience issues with an Airbnb host. Another woman had her host refuse to refund her booking during a recent hurricane. Issues with requesting refunds seem to be a recurring problem for Airbnb guests.

What is Airbnb’s Refund Policy?

According to Airbnb’s website, hosts decide on a listing’s cancellation policy, and guests agree to it when booking. However, the company has a specific policy for major disruptions, including hurricanes, but it only applies if the event leads to another disruption.

In the comments section, viewers encouraged @ktdigiacomo to take action and report the host’s behavior. “Airbnb will side with the guest,” one person wrote. “Report them to Airbnb and ask for a refund.”

@ktdigiacomo shared an update saying she contacted Airbnb’s support team and received a refund for the month of November. “We’re able to go home, where our dogs can be fenced in,” she said. “It’s a very sad situation because, unfortunately, I think this is happening to a lot of people right now.”
